Pope Francis accepts resignation of Bishop Boulos Marcuzzo
Following is the text of the message dated August 31, 2020 addressed by Most Rev. Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Apostolic Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, to Bishop Giacinto Boulos Marcuzzo, Auxiliary Bishop for the Diocese of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, announcing His Holiness Pope Francis acceptance of his resignation:
Dear bishops, priests, religious and faithful,
The Lord give you peace!
As announced on August 29, 2020, the Holy Father, Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Bishop Giacinto Boulos Marcuzzo as Auxiliary Bishop for the Diocese of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
First of all, we express our gratitude and thank Bishop Marcuzzo for his faithful, attentive and extensive service to our diocese, which he loved from a young age and to which he gave his whole life, bringing his positive and valuable contribution, and supporting the pastoral activities of both the diocese and all other Catholic churches of the Holy Land.
Given the special circumstances of the diocese, I inform you that Bishop Marcuzzo will remain Vicar General of the diocese until the appointment of the new Patriarch, which should not take long.
I wish everyone a good start to the pastoral year, which this year will be with challenges not less demanding than the past year.
With all good wishes in Christ,
† Pierbattista Pizzaballa
Apostolic Administrator
